The fields of application for using drones are as various as the drones themselves. Whole new opportunities are opened up through the use of drones in terms of collecting 3D data and digital content in a contact-free manner and preparing such for further processing.

The use of drones for data logging and measurement data logging enables groundbreaking advances in various sectors. We are active in sectors such as civil engineering, the real estate industry, engineering surveying, geodesy, disposal and raw material acquisition, since the drones currently provide crucial value-added when compared with traditional methods used in these fields, particularly for large spaces. Another drone application is inspection from the air in combination with different cameras and sensors. We mainly perform inspections with drones in industry, energy efficiency, the agricultural sector and in the field of civil engineering.

Technology and imagination are barely even constrained, the latter being most apparent in the wide range of drone applications in the fields of visualisation, media, CGI, gaming, and virtual reality (VR). For example, construction progress or visual damage documentation can be performed with ease by means of drone use. The potential of drones is taken very seriously and used strategically in the fields of marketing, sales, and public relations, too. High-resolution aerial images and videos are exceptionally well-suited for presentations and advertising activities. In-demand 360° VR images, also referred to as virtual reality content, are best logged using drones.

Results of drone applications

Across the various branches, drone applications can be split into two areas: the gathering of three-dimensional (measurement) data and the logging of visual/media content. In terms of data logging, the result is usually a point cloud, which is processed based on photogrammetry method or laser scanning. The point cloud is the measurement result of a 3D survey as well as a raw data basis for further processing. Examples for further processing: CAD modelling, volume calculations, creation of georeferenced orthomosaic photos and digital terrain models. In terms of visual and media-related content, the results are usually high-resolution aerial images, videos or 360° VR recordings. This data can be used to great effect in the fields of marketing, sales and public relations. The content also offers new opportunities in terms of documentation at a visual level. For example, construction progress documentation, actual conditions and/or damage documentation can be performed in a highly comprehensible and detail-rich manner.
